Watch John Paul Jones Play 'When The Levee Breaks' With Musicians From All Around The World
The Playing For Change Foundation's latest installment to their 'Song Around the World' series is the Led Zeppelin's classic, 'When The Levee Breaks' - and they even got John Paul Jones to lay down his iconic bass riff for the cover!
I'm not gonna lie, I didn't know how to feel about this when it didn't start with those booming Bonzo drums, but this video just got better as it went along. Tremendous singers and musicians across the board.
'When The Levee Breaks' might be the coolest rock n' roll song ever recorded. I mean, obviously, there's a lot of contenders you could throw out there, but Jimmy Page/JPJ playing that verse groove in sync (with that touch of heroin in Page's veins at the time) over Bonham's drums sounds more badass than anything I've ever heard before sonically. Plus the harmonicas?! C'mon!
Sounds like an outlaw just came into an old Western town and a standoff/shootout is about to occur or Denzel Washington walking away from an explosion or something….
I wasn't super familiar with this 'Song Around the World' series myself prior to this video, but there's a ton of great covers in their catalogue and you can easily get lost down the rabbit hole this evening….
